ALPI Sottsass Dark Brown
Aesthetic exploration at ALPI this year focused on one of its long-standing products, the ALPI Sottsass collection, which has now been expanded with a new colour variant. Designed by Ettore Sottsass in the 1980s, the years in which he established close collaboration with the company, the range has become one of the most representative and iconic collections made by ALPI.
The new colour variant is the result of work conducted by the ALPI research and development department, based on the original project by Sottsass taken from the archive. The document showed an array of Pantone colours accompanied by several notes written by the designer.
Taking the notes as a departure point, ALPI Sottsass Dark Brown was developed, a new shade of brown. In the first collection created for Memphis, there was already a brown. Now, thanks to wood-dying techniques and research conducted by the ALPI research and development department, a refined new version of this colour is being made while maintaining the iconic pattern that characterises the entire collection of Sottsass veneers, which were used for the first time for the 1985 Memphis collection
